Every 2 weeks…

“A different language is a different vision of life.” – Un linguaggio diverso è una diversa visione della vita.

Federico Fellini

They say a language dies every 2 weeks. This happens as indigenous peoples speaking obscure languages abandon their native tongues for lingua francas like English and Spanish. It is understood that by the next century nearly half of the 7,000 languages spoken on Earth will be extinct. Going by Fellini’s quote, this is an important issue for the world and something we should be taking action to moderate. Why? Every language lost is a universe lost. Every single one of these different ways of “looking at the world” boasts a valuable perspective from which to promote human progress. Chunks of world heritage are being chewed up and disappearing.
