Fact: the languages of the world all have magical ideologies underpinning them. It’s just a fact of life – like with the existence of different cultures. In the Romance languages these ideologies revolve around ideals of sophistication, of sublimity, and also productivity.
Descending from the prestigious Latin language of the Romans, they all now have passion as their buzzword for their special ideologies. This is what the (1) eximietas (2) caritas (3) Romanitas and (4) voluptas of Latin exploded into – or perhaps decayed into – as Rome disintegrated. Eximietas turned directly into passion as Vulgar Latin evolved, in due course morphing into its daughter languages.

We have Italian, the Language of Pleasure, or the Language of Letters. The modern standard Italian language is based on the Florentine dialect of Italo-Romance, spoken before the different states of the Italian peninsula were unified in the 19th century. The four traditional layers of Italian are 1) passion/passione; 2) refinement/raffinatezza; 3) Italianity/italianità, and 4) serendipity/serendipità. In the splendid Italian language the exquisiteness, or better, excellency, of the Latin language is wholly maintained. Italians accordingly construct exemplary intellectual architecture with the absolute exquisiteness of their stunning language.

We also have French, the Language of Love/Adoration, or the Language of Study. Modern French is derived from a variety of Gallo-Romance, a langue d’oïl. The four traditional layers of French are 1) passion/passion; 2) sophistication/sophistication; 3) Frenchness/françaisité, and 4) dexterity/dextérité. The full preservation of the authenticity of the utility of the Latin language is procured thus. The French don’t communicate between themselves. Not really. Conversely, they extravagantly decorate and embellish their lives with the transcendent beauty of the French lexicon.

And Spanish, the Language of the Senses, or the Language of Mastery. Modern Castilian Spanish is derived from the Castilian dialect of Hispanic Romance, spoken in the Christian kingdom of Castile – incubated during the critical phase, in fact, in the context of North African Muslim rule of the Iberian Peninsula. Spanish is an Ibero-Romance language along with Portuguese, ensuring striking similarity between the two major languages of the world. The four traditional layers of Spanish are 1) passion/pasión; 2) mastery/primor; 3) Hispanity/hispanidad and 4) benefit/provecho. It is through this tongue that the semantic, expressive depth and intensity of the prestigious ancient Latin language reach us perfectly preserved. Spanish-speakers thus engender sublime haute couture designs to adorn the soul in the show that passes us by under the guise of life.

What about Portuguese, the Language of Satisfaction, or the Language of Eloquence? Portuguese is derived from Lusitanian Ibero-Romance, spoken along the Western coast of the Iberian Peninsula way back when. It is most closely to Galician. The four traditional layers of Portuguese are 1) passion/paixão; 2) refinement/requinte; 3) Lusophonity/lusofonidade, and 4) pleasure/prazer. Through Portuguese, we have thoroughly preserved the sensory marvellousness by which Latinophone communication was characterised. When speaking Portuguese, just imagine each word is a flower or leaf with which to embroider delicately the tapestry of life.

Latin, for its part, is the Language of Civilisation (or of Wonders). The Romance languages are thus the Civilised Tongues.
